| Bio: | Character Details: Name: Originally Jayanti Indrani, but since her marriage, she has been renamed Jocelyn Wolfe Character journal name: lotusmisplaced Your photo-credit/PB: Aishwarya Rai Age: 21, almost 22 Nationality: Indian, citizen of the British Empire Allegiance and why: At the moment, "Jocelyn" is neutral. She is simply intrigued by European life at politics at the moment, and rather than choosing a side, she is exploring both sides of the issue, in order to see which could be more fun. Social Status and/or Occupation: Newly married to a spice merchant for the East India Trading Company Brief physical description of your character: Jocelyn is an impressive young woman. She is taller than most women, though she does not give off the impression of being very "large." Her facial and bone structures seem to imply that she should be petite, and it is this slight contradiction that gives her a sort of attraction. While she can be considered beautiful, it is an odd, almost atypical sort of beauty that makes her visually appealing. She is a curvaceous woman, though her European dress tends to hide that physical aspect. She is light skinned for an Indian woman, and has light blue-green eyes that also seem to contradict her otherwise ethnic features. She has long, wavy brown hair that she prefers to leave free and loose, though she has recently gotten used to wearing her hair up. Brief description of your characters history, including family: Jayanti's father was a shrewd man who almost immediately established firm trading connections with the English. He recognized the necessity and economic advantages of doing so, and therefore, has always been friendly with Englishmen and immersed in English culture. Therefore, Jayanti grew up in a rather privileged environment. She and her elder brothers were spoiled with the riches her family gained through trading, and was taught European languages, culture and style. Her family still retained Indian traditions, but they were no strangers to the ways of the Europeans. When she was growing up, Jayanti considered herself to be more knowledgeable of European customs than she was in Indian customs, but she soon learned how very wrong she was. She identified more with England than with India, and while she adored her country, she soon desired to leave it. The opportunity for Jayanti to travel outside of India came soon enough. Shortly after her seventeenth birthday, Jayanti overheard one of the merchants her father was acquainted with express an interest in obtaining an Indian bride. Though neither her father nor the merchant in question knew that Jayanti had overheard such information, she understood that this was her chance to leave India and experience the rest of the world. Jayanti soon initiated a subtle flirtation with this merchant that soon grew into an obvious courtship. Her father, initially, discouraged the merchant and attempted to bar Jayanti from seeing him. While Jayanti's family had accepted European influence, they still hoped to arrange a marriage for her with a suitable Indian man who was their family friend. Jayanti, however, was too impetuous, and continued to pursue the courtship without her family's knowledge. Eventually, the merchant asked for Jayanti to be his wife, and her father, unwilling to let his relationship with the English merchants decline, had to agree. Following her engagement, Jayanti traveled to England, where she was given a nurse and a few handmaids. These women were her only company until her marriage, when she officially because the merchant's wife and the head of his household. When she married, she agreeably took the name Jocelyn Wolfe, and was baptized a Christian. Shortly after her wedding night, "Jocelyn" began to lose interest in her husband, who she never truly loved. For a while, Jocelyn was content to be the perfect English housewife and remain at home. Now, Jocelyn spends her time exploring her new country. (often unsupervised) The social and political state of Europe intrigued her, and she has just recently began to appreciate that European life was not nearly as glamorous as she once thought. One or two plots which you would like to play out in the community: I would like to see Jocelyn get drawn into some sort of nefarious or dangerous plot that is occurring in England. Considering she is a bit naïve and goes around unsupervised, I think that it is very possible (and interesting) for her to be drawn into something not-so-safe or proper, or perhaps drawn to someone not-so-safe and proper. Also, I would like to see Jocelyn find her way to France somehow, as she would be determined to go there for "adventure." Are there any other characters you would like to see in the game? For instance, family, friends of your character?: I would like to see: Mr. Wolfe: Jocelyn's husband, a young fairly wealthy merchant from the East India Trading Company. Mr. Wolfe is not from an old wealthy family but perhaps went into the Company and made something of himself on his own, or perhaps it is a family investment of a few generations. Mr. Wolfe is kind to Jocelyn, rather worldly with an interest in travel. Greatly enamored by Jocelyn and possibly blindly infatuated or in love with her. Unsure as to whether or not he is aware yet that this was unrequited. Jocelyn's Nurse: A matronly woman who looked after Jocelyn from the beginning of her life in India, a sort of maternal figure that Jocelyn goes to for comfort. Often accepts guidance from her but is often impetuous. Basically, this character should act like Jocelyn's mother. A few scattered friends among young English women or more common English citizens is also something I would like, and perhaps a best friend or confidant of sorts. Friendships between Jocelyn could be developed with characters in game so I don't particularly need a position filled for that yet. | |||||||||
